Our mission is to empower students by providing a personalized and flexible learning environment that focuses on their social, emotional and academic needs. We continually research and apply evidence-based, best teaching practices for children ages 6-15 who all share one thing in common: they think and learn differently.

OUR STUDENT COMMUNITY

Who We Serve

Our students have strengths as well as language-based and/or attention-based learning differences, such as:

  • Dyslexia (reading and/or spelling)

  • Dysgraphia (writing)

  • Dyscalculia (math)

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Executive function skills

  • School-related apprehension

We understand that students with language and/or attention-based learning differences struggle in and outside of school and are at risk for anxiety and depression. Each enrollment application is carefully reviewed and considered.

Through our Social-Emotional and Academic Learning Action Plan and the holistic approach embedded in our teaching practices, we are committed to supporting our students’ growth and cultivating a positive school experience.

Some diagnoses require more support and fall outside of our scope of service. These include:

  • Primary behavioral diagnoses

  • A need for behavioral intervention services

  • Primary emotional diagnoses

  • Severe and profound learning diagnoses (including communication deficits)

  • Complex medical needs

How To Apply

  • Step 1: Application Form

Submit your completed Enrollment Application via email to admissions@bccl.bm and transfer the application fee via bank transfer. Once both are received, we will contact you to schedule a preliminary meeting. Please provide any prior assessments that have been completed for your child.

  • Step 2: Initial Meeting

A meeting is held for parents to learn more about our school, gaining insights into our educational framework and environment. From that point, a "Meet and Greet" is scheduled to include the prospective student. If it is determined that your child may benefit from BCCL's approach, the next step is to arrange an Experience Week for your child.

  • Step 3: Experience Week

The Experience Week enables BCCL to evaluate your child’s academic (math, reading and writing) abilities, ensuring they can participate in lessons that are tailored to their skill levels. This week also allows our teachers to understand each child’s unique learning style and needs.

STEP INTO OUR CLASSROOMS

Experience Week

Our goal is to ensure that BCCL’s approach and school environment will be a good fit for each child. Once the application process and a “Meet and Greet” has been completed, we invite prospective students to spend an Experience Week to determine eligibility. The Experience Week allows BCCL to assess a child's math, reading, writing and social skills so that they can participate in daily lessons based on their skill levels. Teachers develop a rapport with each prospective student to understand their learning styles and specific needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We are the only school in Bermuda that provides personalized, flexible learning for children from ages 6-15 who have been assessed or diagnosed with language-based and/or attention-based learning differences.

  • BCCL follows the U.K. National Curriculum, the International Primary Years (IPC) and the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). We integrate core subjects through project-based learning, allowing students to learn multiple subject areas through thematic units in a cross-curricular approach. This is supported by a flexible class design and community-based learning experiences — thus increasing students’ engagement.

  • All students want to make connections with others and have friends and teachers that care about them. We believe social and emotional learning doesn’t happen by chance, and that there needs to be a plan in place to ensure that it is ingrained into the school curriculum.

Based on the CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning) framework, we developed and implemented a school-wide Social-Emotional and Academic Learning Action Plan. Skills such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making are embedded in students’ personalized learning goals, which teachers track, along with academic goals. Students who struggle in school are also at risk for anxiety and depression. Our teachers incorporate a variety of mindfulness techniques to help students self-regulate when they are feeling stressed. The use of these holistic approaches has made a tremendous difference in students’ behaviors, leading to a positive school experience.

  • No. Parents are encouraged to share any assessments their child has received beforehand; however, the application process can begin before a formal diagnosis has been made. During the enrollment process, a recommendation may be made for your child to have an assessment to better understand their learning needs and any additional interventions they would benefit from.

  • We maintain low student-to-teacher ratios to ensure personalized support and attention. Typically, our ratio is 6:1, depending on the class and needs of the student. There are times throughout the day when students are supported in smaller groups.

  • Each student has a personalized learning plan, including goals to meet their academic, social and emotional growth. Teachers continually track student progress, allowing students to move year levels throughout the school year.

  • Specialist therapeutic interventions can be coordinated on-site during the school day as part of BCCL’s wrap-around support. Families contract directly with the service provider.

BCCL provides additional reading and math support for students at no additional cost. Through a partnership with the Reading Clinic, BCCL also provides the ICAN Math Program at no additional cost for students diagnosed with dyscalculia.

  • While BCCL cannot offer a high school diploma, students can remain with us until they are 15-16 years old. We provide family support to transition to their next school, whether on-island or away to continue their education.

  • BCCL has rolling admissions. Our teachers continually track student progress, allowing students to move up year levels throughout the school year.

  • Our tuition is $29,500 for the 2024-25 school year.

  • The BCCL advantage includes evidence-based, best teaching practices based on the U.K. National Curriculum, and the International Primary and Middle Years Curriculum created by the International Curriculum Association. Personalized learning plans incorporate social and emotional targets, low student-to-teacher ratios, student-centered flexible classrooms and family-centered support. BCCL provides the following at no additional cost: reading and math support, experiential learning off-site with community partners and a laptop with accessibility features.

  • BCCL is committed to supporting Bermuda’s students who think and learn differently. Tuition bursaries are available for those who qualify.
