SHAPING FUTURES

BCCL Teacher Mentorship Program

The biggest challenge we continue to face is securing highly qualified Bermudian teachers who are trained and have experience teaching children with learning differences in a progressive, flexible classroom environment. Given that our students are often two or more academic grade levels behind, our teachers must be able to provide a specialized approach to meet their unique needs.

The BCCL Teacher Mentorship Program is the first of its kind in Bermuda, offering teachers a two-year opportunity to train alongside experienced teachers while receiving a salary and benefits.

The Teacher Mentorship program is part of BCCL’s wider mission to develop an awareness that students who struggle in the traditional school environment may have language-based learning differences such as dyslexia, dyscalculia or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and need individualized support to meet their specific needs.

  • Bermudians, spouses of Bermudians, and Permanent Resident’s Certificate holders, who hold a bachelor’s degree in education that included the completion of 12 weeks of student teaching. Applicants must also have a Bermuda Educators Teacher License or qualify to receive one. This paid position includes health insurance and allows qualified candidates to work alongside a master-level teacher learning evidence-based, best teaching practices in a personalized, flexible learning environment. Upon successful completion, mentees may be offered employment at BCCL.

  • Must have teaching qualifications (B.Ed., PGCE, QTS) from an internationally accredited college or university.

Must have completed a minimum of 12 weeks of student teaching with an internationally accredited university.

Must be licensed with the Bermuda Educator’s Council or meet the requirements to obtain a license.

Must be SCARS and CPR/First Aid certified, or available to attend training certification.
