Specialized Support Teacher

Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Support teachers in the design and implementation of educational programs and services for students.

  • Be knowledgeable of student assessments, including their individual diagnosis and recommendations.

  • Organize and manage interventions that will benefit students.

  • Collaborate with families to support the implementation of recommendations.

  • Collaborate with speech and language and occupational therapists, Reading Clinic tutors, and other supportive services to schedule therapy intervention sessions and track student progress.

  • Track important progress metrics and develop necessary intervention plans.

  • Develop positive relationships with students to support their social and emotional learning.

  • Collaborate with teachers to design community-based learning opportunities for students that connect with the curriculum, including guest visitors and organizing transportation when needed.

  • Approach teaching in a team-centered environment.

  • Attend events outside of school hours such as weekly staff meetings, open houses and professional development sessions.

  • Enjoy working with children in a busy educational setting.

Qualifications:

  • Teaching qualifications (B.Ed., PGCE, QTS) from an internationally accredited college or university.

  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 weeks of student teaching with an internationally accredited university.

  • A minimum of five years of experience teaching children with learning differences.

  • Licensed with the Bermuda Educator’s Council or meets the requirements to obtain a license.

  • SCARS and CPR/First Aid certified, or available to attend training certification.

  • Must be able to demonstrate experience in managing student caseloads and providing successful interventions.

  • Experience working in a team environment.
